The course introduces the students to the Ancient Egyptian civilization from the early Stone Age to their conquest by the Persians and Greeks. It gives a comprehensive historical account on the rise and fall of the Egyptian dynasties, analyzes archeological and anthropological evidence, discusses religious, cultural and social patterns, and examines the earliest masterpieces of art and architecture in the Egyptian world.

Trip to Egypt (56:606:614:01) 1.5 credits:
As part of the International Study Abroad program, we take a trip to Egypt during Spring break, with visits to major archaeological sites such as Sakkara, Memphis, the Pyramids, the Sphinx at Giza, the royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, the Luxor-Karnak Temple, and the West Bank including Queen Hatshepsut’s mortuary temple and Medinet Habu. The trip also includes a flight to visit Abu Simbel, the Temple of Philae at Aswan, and in Cairo the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, the Coptic, Jewish, and Islamic Old Cairo, and the Khan El Khalili Bazaar.

Airfares, and departure tax, and fuel surcharges are always subject to change without notice up to the date of ticketing. International and domestic airfare becomes non-refundable for seats cancelled within two (2) months of departure date. Any cancellation of seats at least two (2) weeks prior to departure carry a 50% ticket value penalty. Cost is subject to availability of booking code at time of booking. Tickets are non-endorsable.

March 12, 2010 (Friday). Departure from JFK in the evening.
March 13, 2010 (Saturday). Arrival to Cairo International Airport, meeting & assistance by Zekri Tours representative, transfer by private A/C Bus to Shepheard Hotel, (Optional Dinner Cruise including Belly Dancer and Tanora Show, excluding any kind of drinks $45.00 per person)
March 14, 2010 (Sunday). Breakfast at the hotel, 700 start your full day tour to visit Great Pyramids, Sphinx, Memphis, Carpet School (Lunch optional $20.00 per person excluding drinks) continue our visit to Sakkara, Papyrus Institute. Back to your hotel, overnight in Cairo.
March 15, 2010 (Monday). Breakfast at the hotel, 830 start your full day tour to visit Old Cairo (Hanging Church and Abu Serga Church), Perfume Factory (Lunch optional $20.00 per person excluding drinks) continue our tour to visit the Egyptian Museum and Khan El Khalili Bazaar, back to your hotel, overnight in Cairo.
March 16, 2010 (Tuesday). Breakfast box, check out, 300 transfer to Cairo International airport for departure to Abu Simbel via Aswan by MS130 at 500, arrival Abu Simbel at
745. Meet and assist by Zekri Tours Representative. Visit Abu Simbel Temple, transfer to Abu Simbel airport for departure to Aswan by MS133 at 1045, arrive Aswan at 1130, transfer to Pyramisa Isis Island Hotel, check in, overnight in Aswan.
March 17, 2010 (Wednesday). Breakfast at the hotel, check out. Start your visit to Unfinished Obelisk, High Dam & Philae temple, direct transfer by private A/C bus to Aswan (around 3 hours driving), arrive to Luxor, check in, dinner at hotel, overnight in Luxor. Breakfast at hotel, full day excursion to visit the West Bank which includes Valley of the Kings, visit to the Alabaster factory, continue your tour to visit Queen Hatshepsut Temple, Medinet Habu and photo stop at Colossi of Memnon. Dinner at hotel and overnight in Luxor.
March 18, 2010 (Thursday). Breakfast at the hotel, start your full day tour to visit the West Bank which includes Valley of the Kings, visit to the Alabaster Factory (Refreshment drinks will be served during the visit) continue your tour to visit, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Madinet Habu and photo stop at Colossi of Memnon, dinner at hotel and overnight in Luxor.
March 19, 2010 (Friday). Breakfast at the hotel, start your full day tour to visit the East Bank Which includes Karnak Temple & Luxor Temple. Free at leisure (Optional Sound & Light Show at Karnak Temple – English performance from 1830 till 1945 $50.00 per person). Dinner at hotel and overnight in Luxor.
March 20, 2010 (Saturday). Breakfast at the hotel, check out, transfer to Luxor Airport for departure to Cairo, arrive Cairo, meet & assist by Zekri Tours representative, transfer to your hotel, check in. Free at leisure, overnight in Cairo.
March 21, 2010 (Sunday). Breakfast at the hotel, check out, transfer to Cairo International Airport for final departure to New York.
